Service Description

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is a set of clinical guidelines and protocols used by healthcare professionals to manage patients experience cardiac arrest, stroke, acute coronary syndromes, and other life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies. ACLS builds on the basic life support (BLS) skills of CPR and includes advanced interventions such as airway management, pharmacology, and ECG interpretation. Key Components of ACLS 1. Early recognition and activation - Recognizing signs of cardiac arrest, stroke, or myocardial infarction (MI). - Activating the emergency response system promptly. 2. High-Quality (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) CPR - Emphasis on effective chest compressions, proper rate and depth, minimal interruptions, and adequate ventilation. 3. Airway Management - Use of advanced airway devices (e.g., endotracheal intubation, supraglottic airways). - Ensuring adequate oxygenation and ventilation. 4. Rhythm Recognition and Defibrillation - Rapid ECG interpretation - Differentiation between shockable (e.g., ventricular fibrillation, pulseless VT) and non-shockable rhythms (e.g., asystole, PEA). - Timely defibrillation for shockable rhythms. 5. Medication Administration - Use of drugs like epinephrine, amiodarone, astropine, and adenosine during resuscitation. - Dosing and timing according to ACLS algorithms. 6. Post-Cardiac Arrest Care - Managing return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). - Monitoring vital signs, oxygenation, and neurological status. - Possible therapeutic hypothermia and coronary reperfusion strategies. 7. Team Dynamics and Communication: - Structured roles and clear communication in resuscitation teams. - Use of closed-loop communication and effective leadership. 8. Stroke and ACS Protocols - Early identification and treatment of stroke symptoms (e.g., using the Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Scale or FAST). - Management of acute coronary syndromes with aspirin, nitrates, and reperfusion strategies Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required or strongly recommended for healthcare professionals who are directly involved in the resuscitation and management of patients in critical or emergency settings. These include professionals who need to respond to cardiac arrest, code blue situations, or acute cardiovascular events.
